French - Charlemagne Worksheet

Three-page activity worksheet on Charlemagne, in French, from a series on French culture and history topics. Aimed at around A2 on the CEFR scale (ideal for proficient Key Stage 3 groups). Presents twelve vocabulary items and associated activities, including a web quest style quiz and a ‘jumbled chronology’ game (which could be printed out and cut up for a practical slant on it!). The goal is to support general reading skills beyond any particular vocabulary topic; students are challenged to understand words in context and gist. Great as homework or cover work; an answer page is included, so the worksheet can be used with non-specialist teachers as well.

French : Strange and Unusual Animals Worksheet (Pets Extension)

Animaux étranges et inhabituels …des compagnons pas comme les autres! Pets in French… but with a twist! This is a fun two-page worksheet that takes ten uncommon animals (I’m sure very few students will have these at home), and presents a range of activities for students to practise using the words in context: Definitions to understand and match to the words Gapfill for contextualisation Quel verbe to get students thinking about collocations This activity is less about the 12 words themselves, and more about understanding some common French structures and sentence frames. It’s a reading comprehension masquerading as a vocabulary unit! It’s aimed at Key Stage 3 students who already have a good grasp of basic sentence structure, but would make for a good transitional activity for Key Stage 4 too. It’s a fun extension task when you’ve gone through the usual pets vocab, too. Additionally, the multi-task format makes it an ideal homework or cover lesson activity. There is an answer key page included, so the worksheet can be used by non-specialists .

Intermediate Spanish : Primates and Humans Project Booklet

One of a series of intermediate-level booklets designed to expand students’ vocabulary and sentence structures, and get them thinking and speaking about a range of topics in Spanish. They have links to wider citizenship and global / current affairs issues, so make for good cross-subject connections if you want to involve non-language teaching colleagues. This worksheet / topic booklet focuses on the relationship between humans and other primates, and the importance of conservation. It’s suitable for a good Year 10/11 GCSE group or a first year A-level group. It forms a short unit of project-based work that we would spend 2-3 weeks working through with classes, leading up to a short spoken presentation to assess understanding at the end. Sections include: Vocabulary (with sample sentences for each entry) Useful questions in Spanish for conversational practice A reading comprehension to show the vocabulary in context A dialogue featuring two young people discussing the project’s themes A range of practice exercises, including gapfill and translation There is a “for the teachers” section at the end of the document, including answers to all the activities, so it’s suitable to be used by non-Spanish specialist teachers too, or as cover work.
